A Pawling home was the site of a drive-by shooting early Sunday morning, Capt. John Watterson with the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office confirmed.

Multiple bullets from an AR-15 rifle were fired at the Route 55 home in the hours after a winter storm has dropped over 6 inches of snow in the area. Watterson said the gun was fired from the passenger's side of a car traveling westbound. The homeowners reported hearing the shots at 12:30AM, but the total number fired was unclear.

"They heard shots at around that time frame but they didn’t realize the residence had been struck until the next day," Watterson said.

The homeowners contacted the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office after discovering the structure had been hit.

Residents in the area did not report seeing the car or the individuals in the vehicle, according to Watterson. There were no additional reports of shots fired in the area and police believe this is an isolated incident.

"We have no reason to believe the victims were specifically targeted," Watterson said. "We’re continuing to investigate but right now the motive is unclear and we don’t have any suspects."

The Dutchess County Sheriff's Office has asked anyone with information in the shooting to contact Detective Kurt Twaddell at 845-486-3820 or provide tips to (845) 605-2583 (CLUE) or dcsotips@gmail.com.
