The world is more connected than ever before. One of the main reasons for that is IBM right here in Poughkeesie. This is the 50th anniversary of the mainframe computer! You couldn't make it through a day without interacting with a mainframe.

I have lived here most of my life and never been inside the IBM building on Route 9. If you're like me, technology just happens in your life. You don't think about how amazing it is. You just use it.

IBM has been the backbone of our economy here in the Hudson Valley. The industry is always changing and that has cost many their jobs around here. Cloud computing will someday become the norm, but for now the mainframe still does the heavy lifting.

Congratulations to IBM and all of our neighbors who have contributed to it's success.  Here's a look inside the Poughkeepsie campus of IBM. Fascinating for an outsider like me.
