The original McDonald's burger joint is celebrating a birthday.  The McDonald brothers opened McDonald's Barbecue Restaurant in San Bernardino in May of 1940, but quickly simplified the menu.  The new menu only had 15-cent cheeseburgers and hamburgers, 20-cent milkshakes and the brothers added fries about a year later.  The site is now home to the Original McDonald's Museum and officials yesterday added a new mural on the outside to remember the early days of the fast food giant.
It wasn't until 1963 when Ronald McDonald made his first appearance. The Egg McMuffin? Invented in the late '60s, but officially on the menu in 1972. The Happy Meal, June 1979.
Where would we be if McDonald's did not exist?
