Twitter is about to make like Thanos and snap a whole lot of people out of existence.

The social networking platform has announced that they will be purging tens of millions of accounts that have been locked due to suspicious activity. These are, for the most part, fake accounts. A lot of times people will buy fake followers in order to boost their status on Twitter. The site wants to crack down on that and make it a more "trusted service for public conversation," according Vijaya Gadde, Twitter's head of legal policy.

So what does this mean for you? Well, if you're a celebrity, it means you'll probably lose a good chunk of followers. But those people weren't real anyway, so don't feel too bad about it. The average Twitter user only stands to lose around 4 followers. And as long as you don't behave like a bot, your account is probably safe.

The more important question is this: is it weird that Twitter announced this purge right after a new Purge movie just came out in theaters? Is there a hidden message we're not getting here? Is all Twitter crime legal for 24 hours? I will investigate and report back with answers. #JOURNALISM!
