A scholarship has been setup to honor the Hudson Valley sailor who was killed in an overseas crash. Here’s how you can help his legacy and the military pursuit of local high school students.

A GoFundMe page has been setup in honor of Corey G. Ingram. The 28-year-old from Poughkeepsie was one of 10 sailors who died when the USS John McCain collided with an oil tanker near Singapore.

According to the GoFundMe page, the scholarship honoring Ingram will keep his memory alive by encouraging the educational and military pursuit for Poughkeepsie High School seniors.

Funds raised will be awarded to Poughkeepsie High School seniors who will continue their education while serving in the military.

Ingram is a graduate of Krieger Elementary, Poughkeepsie Middle, Poughkeepsie High School and attended Dutchess Community College. He was an active member for the U.S. Navy for the last nine years.

As of this writing, just over $1,000 has been donated, with a goal of $10,000. Click here to donate.

Donations towards the scholarship fund in honor if Ingram can also be made to the VFW Post 170 at 1 Violet Ave. in Poughkeepsie.
