Hopewell Junction’s Joe Panik Back to Play the Mets
The Hudson Valley’s favorite pro baseball player will be back in the Empire State this week to take on the Mets. Joe Panik will probably also be cutting the grass at his parents home in Hopewell Junction.
Panik has been back in the valley many times since joining the San Francisco Giants four years ago. He was back here in December before his wedding to Brittany Pinto who he has known since attending John Jay High School.
The Poughkeepsie Journal reports that Panik is off to the best start of his major league career, batting close to .300 with 1 home run and 9 RBI’s. He also won a Gold Glove in 2016, even though he has had a few injuries. Panik is 100 percent healthy and that’s good news for his Dad, who puts him to work when he comes home to New York.
“Sometimes I need help cutting the grass, and another time I had him put the roof up on the shed,” Joe’s father, Paul Panik Sr., said. “He gets all that special treatment out in San Francisco. When he gets home, he’s still our boy.”
Somehow I get the feeling Joe doesn’t mind helping out when he comes home. So many have talked about what an All American type player he is. A role model both on and off the field. Panik and the SF Giants will play the Mets at Citi Field for three games starting today. I love watching him play. I just wish it was in a New York uniform.
