Pizza preferences are a serious subject. I mean, people get really defensive and passionate about what they put on top of their pies. It's divisive. It can destroy relationships and families.

All right, well, that's a little bit of an exaggeration (not much of an exaggeration, but an exaggeration). But people do have very specific tastes. And a Harris Poll of over 2,000 people had some interesting results.

Perhaps it's no surprise that pepperoni topped the list, with sausage and mushroom rounding out the top three. Those polled also chose their least favorite toppings, and anchovies topped that list. Interestingly, mushrooms seemed the most polarizing, with the topping making both the top 3 favorite while simultaneously being the second least favorite.

When it comes to pizza thickness, 29% of those polled chose thin crust while only 3% chose Sicilian (although that seems to be an odd result, because Sicilian, thick crust, and deep dish were all listed as separate choices, splitting the vote I'm sure).

So, as a New Yorker, you might be curious how things worked out with regard to which region has the best slice. New York was chosen as the #1 state for pizza, with the home of the deep dish, Illinois, coming in second place.
