If you have access to Apple Maps you'll want to check out this little known feature that will give you a wild aerial tour of Poughkeepsie.

Most iOS users are already familiar with Apple Maps, the GPS software that supplies maps, directions and traffic information. But another feature called "Flyover Tour" can give you a whole new perspective of your surroundings.

When searching for popular cities and attractions a button may occasionally pop up on the Maps app with the option to select a Flyover Tour. After pressing the button your iPhone or iPad will zoom out to show a satellite aerial view of the location and then proceed to fly overhead, pointing out landmarks and points of interest. Buildings appear in 3D as the "camera" rotates and moves around town.

Flyover Tours are usually reserved for tourist locations like New York and Paris, so imagine our surprise when we discovered that Poughkeepsie was recently added to the list.

That's right, local hot spots like The Bardavon, Downtown Poughkeepsie shopping district, Vassar College and even the Mid Hudson Civic Center have all been included in this crazy virtual tour.
