Howe Caverns to Reopen Cave Not Seen for 100 Years

Howe Caverns will open a section of their caves to the public for the first time since 1900.

Starting May 3, visitors will be able to take a 2.5 hour tour that will include a section of the caverns that have remained closed to the public since just after Lester Howe discovered it in 1843. The new tour, according to TimesUnion.com, will include the remains of Howe's original tourist boat along with an area where visitors inscribed their names over a century ago onto a wall dubbed Signature Rock.

Some 200,000 visitors flock to Howe Caverns each year, making it New York's second most popular natural attraction. Located just outside of Albany, the caverns have expanded through the years, offering a zipline course, rock wall climbing and other adventure activities for families.
