A local 15 month old child was shot in the face with a pellet gun and authorities are seeking answers.

Detectives from the Ulster County Sheriff's Office reported via their Facebook page that around 9:40 on July 5th, they responded to a call at 130 Timberwall Road in the Sunset Woods mobile home park in the Town of Saugerties. A woman was carrying her child into her home when the baby was shot in the face with, what police believe to be, a pellet gun.

The child was rushed to a Heath Alliance of the Hudson Valley's Broadway Campus in Kingston for treatment. Doctors there discovered a pellet lodged in the child's face. It's not known at this time whether the pellet gun in question was CO2 or air powered.

This is an active investigation and authorities ask that anyone with information contact Detective Babcock at the crime hotline at (845) 340-3599 with any relevant information.
