Hudson Valley students at a local high school were able to receive free curbside blessings before the start of the new school year.

On Thursday from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m., Christ Lutheran Church Pastor Ernst Mossl stood on the sidewalk outside the Newburgh church at the corner of Fullerton Avenue and South Street to provide Newburgh Free Academy students with a quick sidewalk blessing or pray.

"From time to time N.F.A. students will pop into our church for a quick prayer or quiet moment before school," Mossl said in a press release. "So it just came to me that we would offer anyone who wants a quick curbside blessing or pray to start the new school year."

Mossl stood outside waiting for students next to a sign that read, "First Day of School. Walk Up Prayer & Blessing."

The church is located across the street from the high school. Earlier this year, Rev. Mossl offered curbside ash on Ash Wednesday.
