Get ready to pay more for parking.

On Monday Kingston Mayor Steve Noble proposed a 2017 budget of $41.45 million. According to the Daily Freeman, the property tax levy will go unchanged and city tax rates will drop. More revenue will come, however, from an increase in parking fees.

Parking meters are expected to generate almost 60 percent more revenue thanks to a plan that will increase the price of parking. Noble was quoted by the Daily Freeman as saying,

A request for proposals has been released for the purchase and installation of kiosks at various parking lots throughout the city, as well as the activation of new payment options for on-street parking.

Those new payment options include new kiosks that will accept both cash and credit cards. Meters will also be equipped to accept payment by smartphone. Drivers would get an alert on their phone before the meter runs out and add extra money through a mobile app.
