Bard College in Annandale will soon be able to offer their student body greater access to Hudson Valley history as they've agreed to purchase one of the areas most historic mansions.

The Daily Freeman reports Bard has agreed to a deal with Historic Hudson Valley to purchase the 375 acre Montgomery Place. Financial terms were not disclosed and the deal is expected to be finalized by the end of the year.

College president Leon Botstein stated the school will respect the history of the property and plans to use the space for various educational initiatives. There is a working farm which will continue to operate. The public will still have access to the property as Bard integrates the land, as part of the now 1,000 acre campus.

The site was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1992 after being placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975. The house was built in the 19th century and was used by members of the Livingston family.
