A Hudson Valley drug dealer is heading to prison for selling heroin that led to a 24-year-old's death.

On Tuesday in Orange County Court, 32-year-old Jay Pagan of Maybrook was sentenced to eight years in state prison, and three years post-release supervision in connection with selling heroin to a twenty-four-year-old Maybrook woman who died as the result of a possible drug overdose on January 26, 2018.

In March, Pagan pleaded guilty to criminal sale of a controlled substance.

At the time of his guilty plea, Pagan admitted he sold heroin to the woman at his Maybrook home.

In total four people died from likely drug overdoses around the time of the 24-year-old woman’s death. In January, police alleged the deaths were related but haven’t announced anything from their investigation.

"Drug dealers who sell narcotics that result in someone’s death from an overdose must be held accountable for their actions," Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler said. "The opioid crises continues to claim far too many lives. There were 88 suspected overdose fatalities in Orange County in 2017."
