A beloved Hudson Valley elementary school teacher collapsed in class on Monday and died after being rushed to the hospital.

In a letter to parents from George Washington Elementary School in Kingston, Principal Valerie Hannum expressed her sadness over the passing of Rebecca Debrosky. Students were not told about Debrosky's death to allow parents the opportunity to handle the news at home with their children.

Messages of grief were posted on the Kingston School District's website by parents and faculty members. Debrosky was called "Becky" by those who knew her. Facebook user Andrea Barnhart described the deceased as "an amazing woman, teacher, and mother.

The Kingston City School District's crisis response team was called into George Washington Elementary, with teachers from other schools helping to provide relief for instructors who were trying to deal with the incident without upsetting the students. Counselors and other support professionals have also been made available to help both students and faculty members.

The support team will continue to remain available until the end of the school year. There has been no information released about funeral services at this time.
