A fast food chain has chosen the Hudson Valley as a testing ground for their new, meatless burger that is supposed to look and taste like the real thing.

On Monday, July 3 the Hudson Valley will be one of the very first places in the country to bite into a plant-based burger that has no cholesterol, but gives the impression that it's full of grease.

Burger-Fi in Poughkeepsie will be one of just eight of the chain's locations to serve the Beyond Burger. According to the NY Times, this next-generation veggie burger has been sold at Whole Foods for home cooks and in limited numbers at a west coast vegetarian restaurant. But until now, it has not gained a mainstream audience. This will be the first time a real burger restaurant will offer this unique meatless alternative.

The "blood" coming from the burger is actually made with beet juice. As for the taste, we're going to have to wait until next week to find out. But be sure to check back, as we plan to bring you a taste test so you can decide for yourself if this $8 burger is worth a try.

Poughkeepsie will join Malibu, New York City,Philadelphia, Coral Springs, Coral Gables and two stores in Delray Beach to unleash this burger on the public. Why Poughkeepsie? We can only assume because of BurgerFi's proximity to Vassar College, which has a very high population of vegetarian students.
