A private Hudson Valley island that houses a home designed by famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright is up for sale. The island which features the residence known as Massaro House sits on Petre Island in Mahopac and could be yours for a cool $13 million.

De Zeen reports the original master plan in 1950 called for the construction of the home and a 1,200-foot cottage on the island but the owner at the time could not afford to complete the project. The property sat dormant for more than 50 years until Wright fan Joseph Massaro decided to take on the project. The job took more than eight years to complete and the results are beautiful albeit slightly controversial.

Historians and some architects feel the house should never have been built due to the fact Wright himself wasn't around to see it through, he died in 1959. Massaro constructed the home using the plans but not the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation's blessing.

Despite the controversy surrounding the home, there is no denying it is a one of a kind piece of Hudson Valley real estate.
