A local man has been arrested after allegedly punching a handicapped man as he recovered from surgery at a Hudson Valley hospital.

Charges have been filed against James Damey of Newburgh after an investigation concluded he reportedly committed the crime while the victim was recovering at Orange Regional Medical Center. While he no longer works there, Damey was employed by an agency that serves the handicapped in Sullivan County

Hudson Valley News Network reports the investigation was led by the Bureau of Criminal Investigation. He has been charged with endangering the welfare of a physically disabled person, a felony along with a misdemeanor assault charge.
