A Hudson Valley man is accused of stealing a family’s dog from the family’s front yard.

On Friday, the Village of Liberty Police Department arrested 29-year-old Agron Bitici of Liberty after an investigation into the theft of a dog.

Liberty police began investigating earlier that morning after a Liberty woman said an unknown man came onto her property and stole the family dog, “Tundra,” a 3-year-old Malamute-Husky mix.

The woman told police that the dog was on a leash in her front yard when a man took the dog off the lease and placed the dog into his car.

The dog’s owner tried to chase after the car, but was unable to stop the man.

Following an investigation, police found the dog and Bitici several hours later at a home in Liberty.

The dog was safely returned to its owner and Bitici was charged with petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property. He was remanded to Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $2,500 bail.
