A Hudson Valley man is in jail without bail after police say they found a marijuana growing operation and $10,000 worth of weed inside the home.

On Sunday around 6:30 a.m., members of the Rosendale Fire Department responded to a chimney fire at a home on Main Street in the Town of Rosendale.

Firefighters extinguished the fire with no damage to the residence and no injuries reported, police say.

While inside the home, the fire department allegedly located an indoor marijuana growing and processing operation and notified Rosendale Police.

Detectives from the Ulster County Sheriff's Office and investigators from the Ulster Regional Gang Enforcement Narcotics Team were also called to assist.

A search warrant was obtained and a search of the residence yielded about 12 pounds of marijuana, a rifle, shotgun, peripheral equipment for growing marihuana, packaging material and records, police say.

The street value of the seized marihuana is estimated at $10,000, according to authorities.

The man who reported the fire, Vane Riley, 40, who lives at the home, was arrested. Riley was charged with criminal possession of marijuana, a felony, criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor, and a violation for unlawfully growing cannabis.

Riley was arraigned in the Town of Rosendale Justice Court and remanded to the Ulster County Jail without bail.
