A Hudson Valley man was arrested twice in a span of less than 24 hours.

On Tuesday around 1:10 p.m., Saugerties Police responded to a home on Russel Street for a reported dispute.

A woman told police that during a verbal argument 32-year-old Thomas J. Ziegler Jr. of Saugerties put his hands over her mouth and nose preventing her from breathing

Ziegler applied enough force to cause the woman’s nose to bleed, police say.

Ziegler was charged with aggravated family offense, a felony, and criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, a misdemeanor. He was arraigned in the Village of Saugerties Justice Court and released after the court issued an order of protection for the woman.

On Wednesday around 8:44 a.m., Saugerties Police responded to the same home after the woman reported an unwanted man in her apartment.

While the victim was at a local coffee shop Ziegler entered the locked apartment, police say. When the woman arrived she allegedly found Ziegler in her shower.

Arriving police found Ziegler on the back porch of the woman’s home. He was arrested for violating the court order of protection issued on the day before.

Ziegler was processed at Saugerties Police Headquarters on the felony charge of aggravated family offense and arraigned in the Village of Saugerties Court. He was released after being ordered to appear before the Ulster County Department of Probation for the purpose of pre-trial release and supervision.
