A Hudson Valley man is accused of threatening employees with a knife after he was stopped for allegedly stealing several items from ShopRite.

On Friday around 1:50 p.m., the Orangetown Police Department arrested 38-year-old Steven Rutkowski of Newburgh for robbery, criminal possession of a weapon, felonies, and misdemeanors for criminal possession of stolen property, menacing and petit larceny.

Rutkowski is accused of placing a number of items from the Orangetown Shoprite into his pants and leaving without paying for the items.

When a security guard confronted Rutkowski, he allegedly began fighting with employees and pushed one to the ground.

During the fight, he pulled out a knife an began threatening employees with it, police say.

Rotkowski was eventually subdued and arrested. He was remanded to Rockland County Jail.
