A local man was arrested after allegedly beating his girlfriend's dog to death.

The Times Herald Record reports that Michael Oramas from Accord was arrested on Friday and accused of animal cruelty.

The 8-year-old dachshund was taken to a Kingston veterinarian, where it was diagnosed with broken ribs, a broken jaw, a punctured lung and other internal injuries consistent with blunt force trauma. Oramas' girlfriend arrived home to find the dog barely breathing.

Police say they were called to the home after the couple got into a domestic dispute over what had happened to the dog. Oramas was arrested and released. He is due back in court on April 8.
