A Hudson Valley man was charged with DWI following a report of a wrong-way driver. Police say the driver was later found sleeping in his car, on the highway, with his car facing the wrong direction.

New York State Police in Hawthorne arrested 29-year-old Rene Sanchez, age 29, of Yonkers, for driving while intoxicated, a felony, 2nd-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, a misdemeanor, and a violation for unlawful possession of marijuana.

On Sunday around approximately 4:41 a.m., State Police were dispatched to a report of a wrong-way driver traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of the Sprain Brook Parkway. Police say they found the Sanchez sleeping behind the wheel of his parked vehicle facing westbound in the southbound right shoulder of the Sprain Brook Parkway.

Sanchez was charged with felony DWI when a criminal history revealed a previous DWI related conviction from 2009.

Officials say Sanchez provided a breath sample that revealed a blood alcohol level of .15%.

Sanchez was arraigned before the Town of Mount Pleasant Court. He was remanded to Westchester County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail and scheduled to return to the Town of Mount Pleasant Court on May 19.
