A local man is guilty of assaulting his ex-girlfriend in her home with a blunt object and taking her to his Ulster County home.

In Orange County Courty 47-year-old Christopher Redenti, of Highland plead guilty to 1st-degree assault.

On October 23, 2015, the victim’s daughter returned home and found a large amount of blood on the outside of their front door, blood spattered in the home, and her mother missing.

The daughter contacted the Town of Newburgh Police. Authorities spoke to Redenti on the phone, encouraging him to surrender, while the Town of Lloyd Police Department drove to his home, where they took him into custody and obtained medical assistance for the mother.

The unnamed victim suffered injuries to her head, finger, and vertebra. She required around twenty-five staples to her head, multiple stitches to her finger, which was opened up down to the tendons, and a fractured vertebra.

Officials say Redenti assaulted the victim in her Town of Newburgh home with a blunt object, threw her over his shoulder, and drove her to his home while she was bleeding profusely.

“The quick thinking of the victim’s daughter, coupled with coordinated police response may have prevented additional harm to the victim,” said District Attorney David M. Hoovler in a statement. “It is unfortunate that even after leaving a relationship, some are still subjected to violent abuse. The dangerous and vicious actions of this defendant deserve a severe sentence.”

The Orange County District Attorney’s Office is recommending 15-years in prison for Redenti. He’s scheduled to be sentenced on August 17.
