A Middletown man bought a winning lotto ticket just before New Year's and split it with a local waitress. The Times Herald Record reports Henry Brown was in Maddy's Diner for a BLT and a cup of coffee and waitress Kimberly Cruver wouldn't accept his tip that day. So Brown told her he was going to play her birthday numbers in the lotto and offered half his winnings if the ticket came up a winner.

Cruver was born in 1965, so Brown attempted to buy two Win 4 tickets with those numbers from Middletown Liquor. When too many people were trying to play that number that day, he settled on 9561 which won him $10,000.

Brown called the diner the following day when he found out he won the cash. He said he was tempted to keep the cash, but wanted to do the right thing.

Some people in my family thought I was crazy, but I’m a man of my word.

Cruver, who is a single mother, plans to spend her share on her two children while Brown caught up on some bills. $10,000 doesn't go as far as it used to.
