Hudson Valley Native, a Police Officer, Missing In Russia
Help is needed to get a Hudson Valley native, who went missing while hiking in Russia, home to his pregnant wife and infant child.
Steven Scott Beare, now a police officer in Colorado, went missing while climbing Mount Elbrus, the highest mountain in Russia and the tenth most prominent peak in the world.
Steven and his wife, Olivia, have a 1-year-old child and are expecting their second. Both graduated from Catskill High School.
Beare was confirmed missing on June 16 when he didn’t return to his check point while climbing Mount Elbrus, according to the Colorado Police Officers Foundation.
Beare has extensive training in cold weather mountain climbing, officials say. Shortly after beginning his climb in Russia, a severe blizzard developed. He hasn’t been heard from since June 13.
Russian search crews stopped actively looking for Beare, according to Denver 7.
Steven’s family and friends have organized a private search team of highly trained and experienced mountain climbers and rescuers. However, funding is limited and public donations are needed.

Mount Elbrus is located in the Caucasus Mountains in Southern Russia, near the border with Georgia.
