Hudson Valley Painting Company Pleads Guilty to Not Paying Over $30,000 in Wages

A local painting company plead guilty to under-paying workers. Officials say they are looking for more victims in labor related scams from possibly other companies.

On Wednesday, Professional Brushworks, Inc., a painting company based in Highland Mills, pleaded guilty to first-degree offering a false instrument for filing, a felony.

The company admitted to filing false certified payroll reports in connection with a public works project at the Bear Mountain Inn, officials say.

Under the terms of the plea deal, employees of Professional Brushworks, Inc., who had been paid less than the prevailing wage due to them under New York State law will collectively receive over $34,000 in back wages.

The Orange County District Attorney’s Office began an investigation after referrals from labor unions. In March of 2015, the Labor Crime Tip line, a line dedicated to receiving reports of improper pay wages, unsafe working conditions and more, was started.

The District Attorney’s Office is hoping for help in a case against Michael Allocca. The 57-year-old from Washingtonville is accused of posing as a union recruiter, from Laborer’s Union Local 731. It's alleged that he promised the victims union jobs and collected $150 from at least 24 people.
