A group of Hudson Valley preschoolers learned a valuable lesson about respect and honor on Monday. When the fire truck carrying Timothy Gunther's casket passed by New Hackensack Nursery School in Wappingers Falls, the teachers and the students quietly stood at attention and saluted the fallen firefighter.
Gunther died from cardiac-related issues while battling a fatal Church Street blaze in the City of Poughkeepsie on May 4. Mourners gathered at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center on Monday to be tribute to his life and recognize his sacrifice.
He was remembered for his heroism and devotion to family and friends.
