A longtime Hudson Valley Priest was removed from the clergy after an investigation into decades old sexual abuse allegations.

The Archdiocese of New York says law enforcement and the Archdiocesan Review Board recently found the sexual abuse allegations against Father Peter Kihm to be credible.

According to Joseph Zwilling, director of communications for the Archdiocese of New York, allegations were made about a year ago that Kihm committed acts of sexual abuse of an underage boy over 30 years ago. Since the initial allegation others reported similar allegations.

"Father Kihim is no longer a priest. The allegations against him, although from decades ago, were deemed to be credible, Zwilling told Hudson Valley Post. "The Archdiocese of New York has a zero tolerance policy. If a priest has been found to have committed a single act of abuse, that person is never again permitted again to function as a priest.

According to Catholic New York, Kihm was ordained in 1981, he’s served in the Hudson Valley since that time, most recently as a priest at the Good Shepherd Church in Rhinebeck. He was suspended and removed as priest from the Dutchess County church in January of 2015.

"Kihm has returned to the lay state. He is no longer able to serve in this country, in the world, as a priest," Zwilling said.

Kim was pastor from 1999-2013 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Poughkeepsie and also served as administrator of St. John the Baptist, Poughkeepsie. He served at St. Ann’s in Nyack, St. Ann’s in Ossining, and Fishkill's St. Mary’s. Kim taught at Our Lady of Lourdes High School in Poughkeepsie from 1987-1992.

Because the alleged incidents happened so long ago, it's not likely Kihm will, or can, be charged.
