Hudson Valley Sex Offender Fails To Register Address Change, Police say

An Ulster County sex offender is accused of not notifying police of his move to another town in the Hudson Valley.

On Thursday, the Ulster County Sheriff's Office, with the assistance of the Ulster County Department of Social Services, determined that a registered sex offender from the City of Rochester moved to a home in Kerhonkson.

An investigation revealed that 33-year-old James D. Liotta, of Rochester moved from his registered address sometime before Nov. 2, police say. Liotta is accused of not telling law enforcement, and the Department of Criminal Justice Services, within ten days of his move, which he is required to do by law.

Police found Liotta in Kerhonkson and took him into custody. He was charged with a sex offender registry violation, failure to register a change of address, a felony.

According to the New York State Sex Offenders database, in 2004 Liotta was convicted of having sexual intercourse and deviate sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old girl.

Liotta was arraigned in the Town of Rochester Justice Court and remanded to the Ulster County Jail without bail.
