Hudson Valley Sites Recommended For State And National Registry

Three Hudson Valley locations were among the 20 properties recommended for the State and National Register of Historic Places. Protecting historic sites often make them eligible for much need funds for improvements.

The Pilgrim Furniture Factory in Kingston was constructed in 1946-48 and was the first factory built in the area after World War II. The Haines Family Cemetery circa 1884 in Haines Falls, signifies the graves of the Haines family who were pioneers in Catskill tourism. The Crane House in Middletown was built in 1897 at the site of the prosperous Crane family dairy farm.

Perhaps the most significant of the recommendations is not the most visually appealing. Wading River Radio Station on Long Island was once used as a covert FBI transmission station also used during World War II. Radio operators at the station impersonated German agents and collected valuable intel used to confuse and mislead the Nazi's.
