Tragedy struck on Saturday when a car accident killed a 16-year-old Hudson Valley resident and seriously injured another.

State Police responded to an early morning accident in the Town of Tuxedo on April 30. The incident happened at approximately 5:30 AM. According to police, the accident only involved one car that had struck a utility pole. The one car fatal accident took place on Long Meadow Rd in the Town of Tuxedo.

Police say the vehicle was traveling southwest when it left the road and hit an embankment and utility pole. Dale Hirrel, 16 years old, was a passenger in the vehicle. The Greenwood Lake resident was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, Jacob Corti, also 16 and from Greenwood Lake, sustained injuries to his legs and was flown to Westchester Medical Center. The incident is still under investigation and police are asking anyone with information about the crash to notify State Police at Monroe at (845) 782-8497.
