A Hudson Valley teenage girl was tragically killed while crossing the street.

Around 9:00 p.m. Thursday, Ramapo Police responded to Route 59 near Augusta Drive following reports a female who was struck by an oncoming car.

Police say 18-year-old Shiendy Mashinsky, of Monsey and her sister were both crossing Route 59 in a north to south direction. Shiendy was hit by a car traveling east. Her sister made it across the street.

Shiendy hit the front passenger side of the car. She suffered injuries to her head and body and was transported to Westchester Medical Center in serious condition.

Officials announced Shiendy died early Thursday morning.

Shiendy was hit by a 2009 Toyota Sienna driven by Sholom Lenchitz, of Monsey. The car was also occupied by his 6-year-old son. Police did not report any injuries to Lenchitz or his son. He remained on the scene following the accident.

The crash is under investigation by the Town of Ramapo Police Department in hopes of determining the cause of the accident.

At this time there are no criminal charges pending in this case.
