Dutchess County Executive Marcus Molinaro announced the Hudson Valley will play host to the 2016 New York Special Olympics Winter Games, at a press conference at the Mid Hudson Civic Center this morning.

More than 1,000 athletes from across New York State are expected to compete locally in events like Alpine Skiing, Figure Skating, Floor Hockey and more.

The opening ceremonies are to be held in February of '16 and will include the Parade of Athletes and the lighting of the Special Olympics Cauldron.

Volunteers are needed to help set up and break down, in addition to staffing the events themselves. For more information send an email to volunteer@nyso.org.
