This morning, I heard something that I had never heard of before, involving ways to make it snow. Yes, this week is warmer than normal temps for this time of year in the Hudson Valley, but I am not hoping that we get a ton of snow just yet.

Yesterday, October 18, 2016, Dutchess County Executive Marcus Molinaro announced that Dutchess County would once again get the honor of hosting the New York Winter Special Olympics, set for February 2017. During the press conference, Executive Molinaro encouraged Dutchess County residents to "wear their pajamas inside out and to place a spoon under their pillows" in hopes to assure snowy conditions for February.

I had never heard of either one of these things. When asking WRRV listeners about it, here is what they had to say:

  • Hi Brandy yes my kids wear their pjs inside out and wish for a snow day. It was ritual.
  • Brandi, I went to school with Marc Molinaro and I don't remember ever hearing about the inside out pj's or the spoon under the pillow before! Wendy in Stockport
  • Our Newsman, Bobby, said that he would always wear his pajamas inside out and backwards as a way of trying to get a snow day the next morning, but he had never heard of anything involving a spoon.

Sara in Poughkeepsie sent me this link on 'How To Make a Snow Day Happen.' According to this article, the idea behind putting a spoon under your pillow, is that you will need it to be able to un-bury yourself from all of the snow that is about to come your way.

Do you know of any ways other than the above to make it snow? If you do, start planning to do all of them around the middle of January 2017, so there will be plenty of snow for the 2017 New York Winter Special Olympics. Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro might thank you too.
