Each week on ‘In Touch’, our locally produced public affairs program, I have the pleasure of talking with individuals and organizations from all over the Hudson Valley. We focus on non-profit organizations and volunteers who are working hard to help make all of our communities better places to live, work, and raise our families.

This week, Walter Joseph; the Executive Director of The Children's Home of Poughkeepsie and Dr. David Crenshaw; Clinical Director at The Children's Home of Poughkeepsie stopped by our studios to talk about their programs, Trauma sensitive care, providing additional services for children as society changes. We also talked about volunteers from the community and various ways we can all help.

Dr. David Crenshaw, as you will hear in the interview below, spoke about childhood trauma and how research shows the impact it has on the brain. Certain pathways in the brain don't develop, but with the right care and relational engagement, these can begin to develop. It takes time, but it can happen. It was very powerful to hear him explain this.
