The IRS Commissioner sent out a memo Tuesday warning that tax returns could be delayed this year. CNN Money reports that due to budget cuts, people who file paper returns could wait an extra week or more for their money. People who make mistakes or have questions will have a longer wait too.

Congress approved the lowest level of funding for the IRS since 2008. This leaves less staff to take care of business. Allegedly, due to the cuts and hiring freeze, there will be 3-4,000 fewer full time workers at the agency by summer 2015. A 2 day shut down after tax season has been discussed as well to alleviate the budget pinch.

So, be ready for a potentially rough tax season. And if you need the money back quick, you're better off filing early.

Just don't wait until the last day like I usually do.

The good news for Dutchess County STAR eligible home owners is they may be getting a tax credit on their fall bill. County Exec Molinaro announced recently the county is "Freeze Compliant" which leads to the credit. More info on that HERE.
