What a way to spoil a homecoming.  The visiting John Jay Patriots roughed up Roy C. Ketcham on Saturday, en route to a 46-0 victory in the Indians’ final home game of the season.

The Schumacher show began the John Jay scoring in the first quarter, when quarterback Ryan connected with his brother, Robbie, on a 9-yard touchdown strike.  Later in the quarter, Schumacher again aired it out, this time on a 24-yard score to Joe Lisowski, giving John Jay an early 14-0 lead.

The Patriots did the bulk of their scoring in the second quarter with a rushing touchdown by Brad Belotti and two running TD’s from Bristol Smith.

“We’re always excited,” said Robbie Schumacher. “But we learned our lesson against Mahopac when we were up big and they came back.  We said not this time, we’re not letting them catch back up to us.”

With just over a minute to play in the first half, Lisowski did it again, this time on defense, as he intercepted a pass and took it back 35 yards for his second touchdown.  The pick and score gave John Jay a commanding 43-0 lead going into the locker room.

“This was one of the best efforts we’ve had up front, in terms of the offensive and defensive line and controlling the line of scrimmage,” said Patriots head coach Tom O’Hare. “We’ve been asking for that and we’ve had some games where we can’t establish the run.  I thought we did a nice job overall of getting a good push up front.”

Ketcham’s head coach, Bill Roos, as well as John Jay’s O’Hare, spread out the playing time in the second half.  With many of their starters resting, the Patriots added just a 33-yard field goal from Saaid Martinez.

“We’ve got each other’s back,” said John Jay QB Schumacher. “We support each other, even at the end of the game.  All our starters are cheering for all our backups.  It’s a family team.”

The John Jay defense held strong in the second half, although a shutout wasn’t the overarching theme on the sideline.

“At the end of the day, we are coming out to win,” O’Hare said. “Obviously you don’t want to give up points but it’s icing on the cake that we were able to hold them without a score.  The objective is to come out and win and we were able to get that done.”

The Patriots improve to 3-1, and now turn to preparing for Thursday’s home game against Fox Lane.   After losing their first two contests by a combined four points, the Indians are still winless at 0-4.
