During the July 4th crackdown, which took place from July 1st-5th, led to 28 arrests in Dutchess County.

During the crackdown, members of the Dutchess County Sheriffs, State Police, and police departments from Poughkeepsie, Wappingers Falls, Redhook, and Beacon conducted Impaired Driving details consisting of Saturation Patrols throughout the county.  The arrests included 19 impaired driving arrests as well as 8 other arrests.

These details were funded by the Governors Traffic Safety Committee and the NYS STOP-DWI Foundation which for the 3rd year in a row once again awarded the Dutchess County STOP-DWI Program a “Crackdown Enforcement Grant” for the 2015-2016 Crackdown periods.

The grant also includes the assignment of certified Drug Recognition Experts (DRE) to aid in the identification and apprehension of drivers impaired by drugs other than alcohol.

In a press release, William Johnson, Dutchess County STOP-DWI Coordinator stated:

The results of these coordinated patrols conducted during high risk time periods on our roadways are a reminder for all to be mindful of your actions and to celebrate responsibly while attending summer parties and gatherings. Make smart decisions and avoid the consequences of an impaired driving arrest, or worse
