When doing research for Tire Safety Awareness Week, I came across a website where you can check your tires to see if there were any recalls or issues with the tires that are currently on your vehicle.

In addition to search on the website, here are a few other tips to keep your tires in tip top shape from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration:

  • Check your tire pressure, according to the NHTSA findings, only 19% of drivers check their tire pressure often
  • Rotate your tires every 5,000 to 8,000 miles
  • When you check for inflation, also do a quick visual inspection of the tire. Are there any nicks, abrasions or easily spotted uneven wear?
  • Check your tire treads. Most newer cars have treadwear indicators built in but don't rely on this. Use the "penny trick." Place a penny in between two treads with Lincoln's head facing you. If you can see the top of Lincoln's head, talk to your mechanic about replacing your tires.
