Laura Jane Grace vs. Arcade Fire, Round Three

Looks like we’ve headed into another round of the great Laura Jane Grace vs. Arcade Fire feud of 2014. The Against Me! singer has responded to Arcade Fire frontman Win Butler’s response to her problems with his band’s video for ‘We Exist.’

It all started last week, when Grace, the transgender leader of Florida punks Against Me!, called out the Canadian collective for their new video. In it, ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ star Andrew Garfield plays a guy who gets all dolled up for a night on the town.

“Dear @arcadefire , maybe when making a video for a song called ‘We Exist’ you should get an actual ‘Trans’ actor instead of Spider-Man?,” Grace wrote on Twitter. Butler replied a couple days ago, saying that, “For a gay kid in Jamaica to see the actor who played Spider-Man in that role is pretty damn powerful, in my opinion,” among other things.

Now Grace has responded to that … on Twitter, of course. The various tweets — directed at both Arcade Fire and the Advocate — start with Grace’s assessment of the “hella problematic” article.

Grace concluded her multi-tweet response by pointing out that she’s an Arcade Fire fan, especially of their 2010 album ‘The Suburbs.’ “That’s why ‘The Suburbs’ is great and the video sucks though,” she concluded. “When you come from the perspective you’re representing, it’s truth and powerful.”

Here’s the video that got this whole feud started:
