When I started this blog post, it was to share with you the video below, which is labeled as the band Fecal Matter. For those who are not Nirvana obsessives, Fecal Matter is a band that Kurt Cobain had prior to Nirvana, specifically in 1985 and 1986. It featured members of the Melvins on bass and drums, and there was only one recording session, for a demo.

It was pretty exciting to stumble upon and wondered why--since this video has been online for the better part of a decade--I had never heard of this recording of Fecal Matter performing live.

Well, since I'm a nerd and because I work on an alternative radio station, which means I can pass off doing insane amounts of geeky Nirvana internet research as "work," I looked into it. Way into it. Too far into it. And I discovered that the above video is not, in fact, Fecal Matter. It's from a 1990 performance that Nirvana did at the college TV station at Evergreen in Washington, and it has all of the signs of college radio: a band performing sloppy, awesome music while people experiment with the most low-rent visual effects ever.

It's awesome.

And I happened to find the rest of it. Enjoy!
