Dunkin Donuts has announced a new limited breakfast sandwich to their menu in the New York Metro Area. They are calling it the New Pork Roll Breakfast Sandwich (it will be available all day).

The sandwich is made up of pork roll, egg, American cheese on a toasted croissant and will be available for a limited time. When seeing the words "pork roll' I had to ask the question, 'What the heck is pork roll?'. After a quick internet search, I found that it is a baked pork product made to closely resemble ham. In fact, residents of New Jersey have been known, according to the website, jerseyporkroll.com, to refer to the product as Taylor Ham. Taylor being a company known for producing these pork products in the state of New Jersey.

From Wikipedia, here is a definition of Pork Roll:
In 1910 it was described as “a food article made of pork, packed in a cylindrical cotton sack or bag in such form that it could be quickly prepared for cooking by slicing without removal from the bag.”

The limited sandwich has been successful for Dunkin Donuts in New Jersey and will begin being offered in the following NY counties, this week: Bronx, Dutchess, Kings, Nassau, New York, Orange, Putnam, Queens, Richmond, Rockland, Suffolk, Sullivan, Ulster,Westchester.
