Finally, a new movie theater is approved in Sullivan County.

According to the Times Herald Record, the required building permits were issued for the Thompson Mall movie theater on Tuesday and could be open in time for the holiday season.

The movie theater will house six screens. It is located just off Route 42 in Thompson will be the only open movie theater in Sullivan County other than the one that is in Callicoon and only has one screen.

The movie theater project is being done by Middletown Cinema owner James Kula and has been in the works since the theater closed more than five years ago. It looks like the construction will get underway sometime next week and if completed on time, it should be open just in time for the busy movie holiday season.
