An Ulster County man was locked up over accusations he robbed and beat another man at a local gas station.

On Friday around 2:20 a.m., New Paltz Police responded to a 911 call at the Chestnut Mobil gas station parking lot located in the Village of New Paltz for a reported robbery.

Officers on foot patrol located a man who told them another man assaulted him and stole his money. The victim provided officers with a description of the suspect and vehicle.

Officers patrolling the area found a car that matched the description on State Route 299 near the New Paltz and Town of Lloyd border.

Khaliq A. Jones, 24, of Highland was taken into custody after he was positively identified by the victim, police say.

Jones was charged with robbery, a felony, and attempted assault, a misdemeanor. He was remanded to Ulster County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond.

The investigation is continuing and the New Paltz Police Department is asking anyone who may have information about this incident to call the Detective Division at 255-1357. All calls will be kept confidential.

The victim was treated and released by the New Paltz Rescue Squad for minor injuries sustained during the incident.
