Officials released chilling details about a man who’s accused of abducting his girlfriend, threatening to kill her, and crashing into a tollbooth in the Hudson Valley.

Johuan Ramos, 28, of the Bronx was arraigned Tuesday in the Hudson Valley on an indictment charging him with attempted murder, kidnapping, two counts of assault, and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon, all felonies.

According to the Westchester District Attorney’s Office, on June 27, Ramos confronted his girlfriend in the elevator of her Bronx home and at gunpoint forced her into his car,
a black Chrysler 300 sedan.

Ramos then drove north on the New York State Thruway into Yonkers. He told her he intended to kill her and then himself. He proceeded to punch the victim in the head, officials say.

As the vehicle approached the Yonkers Toll Plaza, the victim tried to unbuckle her seatbelt in an attempt to flee. Ramos is accused of then driving through the toll without paying, reaching for his gun, and pointing it at the victim.

The victim then pulled the steering wheel to the right, causing the car to crash in order to avoid being shot. The car continued to veer out of control while the defendant fired his gun four times.

Three shots pierced the windshield and a fourth shot hit the steering wheel. As the victim was attempting to gain control of the gun from the defendant, he allegedly bit her arm, piercing skin.

Ramos then ran into the woods near the Ardsley Rest Area and led police on a nine hour manhunt before he was found hiding in a shed in Hastings-On-Hudson.

Due to the crash, the victim suffered a fracture of one of her ribs which pierced her lung causing it to collapse. She also sustained two additional rib fractures and multiple bruises and welts. She was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of White Plains Hospital and discharged three days later.

Ramos pled not guilty. His remand continues. He’s scheduled for court on September 1 and faces a maximum of twenty-five years in state prison.
