Why would a man cover himself in his own poo? Desperate times call for odd measures?

A very bizarre and disturbing case is unfolding in Louisiana, where a murder suspect is accused of smearing feces on his face while in court. Bryan Schwartz was in a Jefferson Parish courtroom last week facing murder charges for the death of his girlfriend's mother when he defecated in his jail jumpsuit and smeared it across his face.
He was taken from the room by a corrections officer and the hearing was put on hold. As he was led out of the courtroom he laughed, witnesses at the scene said. He and his girlfriend are both charged with last year's beating death of her mother.
