On Wednesday, August 8, a man fatally shot his wife in a major hospital in the Hudson Valley region.

Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla of Westchester County was under lockdown after shots were fired on Wednesday, August 8. A call came in around 9:30 a.m. to police with reports of an active shooter. It was later confirmed that it was not an active shooter and the situation was under control.

It was later determined that it was a husband who shot his wife, and then himself, at the hospital. Both were in their 70s. Authorities say the investigation is still ongoing.

Tap Into Yorktown reports that the husband made a promise to his wife to never put her in a nursing home. She was being treated at Westchester Medical Center for a fall that caused her to break her neck. The fall came after a massive heart attack and stroke, and doctors said the next step was a nursing home.

A note was recovered from their home following the shootings wrote by the husband. According to Tap Into Yorktown, the note said his wife was suffering and he was distraught about it.
