The month of May in New York is all about honoring our older Americans. Here is one way that you can salute some of Dutchess County's oldest:

According to a press release from Dutchess County's Office for Aging, the oldest living resident of Dutchess, will be among the honorees at the Office for the Aging's annual "Celebration of Aging." Vera Van Wager is 111 years young and will be in attendance at the event to be held May 16, 2016 at Villa Borghese, Widmer Road in Wappingers Falls. Ms Van Wager is currently the 49th oldest person in the world, according to the press release.

There are still a few seats at the luncheon that will be honoring Ms Van Wager along with other Dutchess County residents who will be 100 years of age or older in 2016. Also being honored at the event are couples who have been married for 70 years or more. Seats/tickets for the luncheon are limited. If you would like to attend and possibly get advice to see what these "kids" secret is to longevity or to find out who will be the "Willard Scott" of ceremony's, contact the Office for the Aging at 845-486-2555 for more information. Advance registration is required, tickets are $40.
